Abstract
312,852. Hall, J. A., and George, W. F. C. July 26, 1928. Treating with air.-In a device for treating grain, as it falls down a tower, with currents of hot and cold air caused to flow transversely of the tower, hot air, which has not passed through the grain, is introduced into the exhaust conduits to prevent the deposition of moisture in such conduits and the subsequent accumulation of light material therein. In the tower a grain fed at the top b flows over inverted troughs d - - g. Hot air passes from a header h at one side of the upper portion of the tower into the trough e and after passing through the grain escapes through the alternative troughs d into an exhaust header i wherein it passes by a pipe j to a fan m and a beater n and so back to the beater h. At the bottom of the tower alternate troughs g are open to the atmosphere and the other troughs f communicate with a header and exhaust conduit o that leads to a fan p and a dust separator q. A passage j<1> permits air from the pipe j to be passed to the fan p. Each of the inverted troughs d leading to the exhaust header i is provided at its far end with one or more small apertures r opening into the hot air header h thus permitting hot air to pass directly to the exhaust conduits of the apparatus. The hot air may also be passed directly from the one header to the other by a damper-controlled byepass s. The tower is provided with a section k having no air connection and disposed between the upper hot air treatment section and the lower cooling section.
