Abstract

158,912. Robinson & Son, Ltd., T., Robinson, C. J., and Stevenson, T. J. April 10, 1917. Conditioning and damping grain.-Moistened grain is treated with warm air having a regulated moisture content, and subsequently with a current of cold air to condition it. The grain from the hopper k falls down a conduit having perforated side walls b<1> and solid end walls into the boot of an elevator l which delivers it to a hopper k<1> and a second similarly constructed conduit from the bottom of which it is discharged in a cooled and conditioned state. The current of hot air is induced by a fan e placed above an ordinary cyclone separator f. The current from the fan passes through a pipe i to an ordinary airheater d and thence into a passage b<2> arranged between the grain conduits and having passed through the grain in the conduit enters the separator f and the fan e. The current of cold air is induced by a second fan e<1> placed over a second cyclone separator f<1>. Cold air is drawn into a passage c formed at one side of the lower half of the second grain conduit, through the grain into a passage c<1> and then into the entrance f<2> of the separator f<1>. If the warm air current is not sufficiently moist, water or steam may be sprayed into the passage b<2> at the point g. The water used may be that collected in the separator f after having passed through a filter in the tank h.
