Abstract

211,696. Simon, Ltd., H., and Raeburn, C. Feb. 15, 1923. Gravity, materials descending by; air, controlling circulation o f. - Apparatus for drying wheat and maize comprises a steam-heated casing b containing tubes a through which the grain passes in countercurrent to air which is admitted at a slight pressure through the lower perforated portions c of the tubes, the tubes being provided with divisions f at their upper ends to facilitate the separation of moisture-laden air from the grain. The grain is supplied to each pair of tubes through a common duct h, and the air is exhausted through ducts g. The grain is cooled by the air supplied through the duct d and is discharged periodically by a mechanically reciprocated grid i which serves to open and close the bottoms of the tubes. In a modification, the tubes are formed with a perforated portion through which the air can escape, the grain being heated before passing into the tubes.
