Abstract

927,221. Creel apparatus. KINETROL Ltd. June 3, 1959 [June 7, 1958], No. 18258/58. Class 120 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] Mechanism for feeding fine wire comprises means for holding stationary a reel 16 of wire, wire-holding means including a flyer 30 mounted to rotate around the axis of the reel, a brake acting on the member including a drum 28 and a stationary shoe 48 biased into the braking position against the drum, and means for releasing the brake to allow the member to rotate when the tension in the wire reaches a selected value. As shown, the reel is held on a hollow shaft 14 by chocks 17, 18, the latter being releasably held by an eccentric member 19. A cap 20 is releasably fixed to shaft 14 and carries rotatably a spindle 26 to which is attached the flyer 30. The brake shoe is carried by a lever 46 pivoted at 42 to a member carried by the cap and linked at 50 to a lever 56 pivoted at 58 and carrying a weight-pan 60. The wire passes over pulleys 36, 38 of the flyer, over pulleys 66, 68, Fig. 2, on a fixed arm, under a pulley 74 carrying a detachable weight 78 and over a pulley 70. The weight 78 rests in the pan 60 which lowers the lever 56 and applies the brake 46 until the wire tension rises sufficiently to raise the weight and release the levers 56, 46 so that the flyer rotates freely. Further increase in tension is compensated by the rise of the pulley 74. Prior to doffing, the lever 56 is raised to release rod 50 which is then removed with the cap 20. The brake is adjusted by a spring 80.
