Abstract
500,565. Taping machine; feeding webs. HORN, G., and LIPPOLD, W. Aug. 11, 1937, No. 22102. [Class 109] [Also in Group XVI] Covering, by winding.-Relatesto means for regulating tension of tape &c. as it is being wrapped round a cable &c. in a taping machine. The roll of tape 8, mounted on a core 9, is placed on a rubber sleeve 10 loosely mounted on a hub 3 carrying a flange 4. The sleeve 10 is somewhat longer than the core 9 and a loose fit within it. A sleeve 7 screwed on the hub 3 far enough to compress the sleeve 10 provides a firm seating for the core 9. A loose disc 11, with a spring pin 13, is then slid over the sleeve 7 until the pin registers with one of the holes 14 in the sleeve. Braking and tensioning means, mounted to overhang the periphery of the flange 4 is carried by a support 15 fixed relatively to the shaft 2. A lever with three arms 19 .. 21, pivoted at 16, carries at its lower end 19 a roll 23 round which the tape passes to the cable &c. 43. Through the upper ends of arms 20, 21 pass interchangeable rods 30, 42 the rods being changed over to reverse the winding. The upper ends of the rods pass through flared apertures in their supports and a device 33, 34 regulates the tension of the spring 35. The rod 42 is connected to a stop motion. The levers 19 .. 21 may also put an electrical stop motion in action if displaced to an abnormal position. The tape &c. also passes a roll 40 on a brake lever 37, the brake block 38 of which works on the surface 5.
