Abstract
927,045. Convertible chairs; bed settees. AUSTER Ltd., and W. W. SMALL. March 13, 1961 [March 12, 1960], No. 8789/60. Class 52 (2). [Also in Group XXV] A seat assembly comprises a seat 2 and backrest 1 having a common pivotal connection 5 to the upper end of a swivellable link 6 which is pivotally connected at 7 to a base member 8, the seat and back-rest being collectively angularly movable, relatively to the link 6, between a stable forwardly-facing seating position and a stable rearwardly-facing seating position, and gear means being provided whereby the collective angular movement of the seat and backrest causes the link 6 to move angularly in the opposite direction about its pivotal connection 7. The seat 2 and back-rest 1 are carried respectively by arm members 3, 4. A gear member 10 is riveted at 9 to the arm member 3, is centred at 5 and meshes through an intermediate idler gear 11 with a fixed gear member 12 carried by the base 8 and centred at 7. A bar 14 is pivoted at 13 to the arm member 4 and provided with a releasable catch 17 to engage with a latch part 16 carried by the arm member 3. When the catch is released the seat and back-rest open out so that they extend in a line and form a bed.
