Abstract

927,020. Transfusion apparatus. E. B. RAVIZZA. Aug. 29, 1961 [June 27, 1961], No. 31021/61. Class 81(2). A device for introducing liquid into the blood stream comprises a perforating device for the container, incorporating a filtered air inlet, and tubing leading to an injection needle, the tubing and the perforator being made from a transparent material. The arrangement, preferably, also includes a transparent drip chamber. The perforator comprises a tapered hollow member 14 surrounding a pointed, perforating cannula 21 and having a flange 13 to limit the depth of penetration. During the withdrawal of liquid from the container 50 air enters through a filter plug 16 and passes into the container through apertures 15. The drip chamber is made from a bag-like member divided into two chambers 32, 36 by a partition 33 having a duct 34 through which liquid may pass to a filter 35. A standard needle is attached to the free end of the transparent tube 25 by a suitable adaptor 40.
