Abstract

906,203. Transfusion apparatus. SURHOLT, W., and PFRIMMER, A., [trading as PFRIMMER & CO., J.]. March 1, 1961 [March 8, 1960], No. 7548/61. Class 81 (2). A drip chamber assembly for infusion of blood or other liquids comprises a single perforating member through which air inlet and liquid outlet duets pass, the latter communicating with the drip chamber and the former with an air chamber. Preferably both chambers are arranged as a unitary construction, there being an outer shell I divided by a partition c into the drip chamber a and air chamber b. The tubular perforating member f encloses the liquid tube d and the air tube e, which extends from its outlet k to near the bottom of the chamber b. An air inlet m, provided with a cotton wool filter, is attached to the top wall of the chamber b and is preferably bevelled so that the inlet is not blocked if it should be pressed close against the stopper of the blood, or other liquid, container. With this construction any blood which unavoidably enters the air chamber b while the drip chamber is being filled is immediately withdrawn into the bottle as soon as infusion commences and is unable to come into contact with the filter m owing to the high position of the latter.
