Abstract

528,471. Ampoules. DUX, P., and FEITH, W. May 8, 1939, No. 13700. [Class 81 (ii)] An ampoule, for use under gas pressure or vacuum, comprises a container 1 having a tubular projection 2 which carries two spaced stoppers 3, 4, the outermost being penetrated by one end of a cannula. 5 having a lateral opening 6. The outer end of the cannula is protected prior to use by a glass cover 7. In use the exposed end of the cannula is thrust into the body and the other end is pushed through the inner stopper 3 so that either the contents of the ampoule are introduced into the body or blood is withdrawn into the ampoule. In a modification for use in blood transfusions, there is, at the other end of the ampoule, a second tubular projection, also provided with stoppers and a cannula as above, and arranged at right angles to the first. The apparatus is charged with citric acid solution to prevent coagulation of the blood which is sucked in through one of the cannulas and administered through the other, flow being obtained by gravity or by attaching a blowing device to the first cannula.
