Abstract

1,121,934. Venoclysis apparatus. ABBOTT LABORATORIES. 6 May, 1966 [11 June, 1965], No. 20260/66. Heading A5R. [Also in Division B8] The cap 22 covering a port of a venoclysis fluid container is fractured by twisting a cover 34 having at one end a socket 36 which fits over a cannula 24 of a recipient set and at the other end a recess 40 which mates with head 22e of cap 22. After removal of the fractured portion of the cap and cover 34, cannula 24 may be forced through the port tube (44) (Fig. 6) to puncture the wall of the container thus permitting fluid to flow from the container into the vein of a patient via sight chamber 26, tubing 28, and needle 32. Cannula cover 34 may be provided with lugs 38, 38a to aid twisting. In modifications (Figs. 9 and 10) the cannula cover is provided with an extension, instead of a recess, which engages with an appropriately formed head on the post cap such that when torque or lifting action is applied fracture occurs enabling the port cap to be removed.
