Abstract
1291599 Surgical syringes M C ARIAS 15 Dec 1969 [2 Jan 1969] 60952/69 Heading ASR [Also in Division B8] A self-destructing syringe comprises a rigid thermoplastics cylinder 19 having an integral tapered nozzle 20, which terminates in a sealed end part 21 joined to the nozzle by a thinned wall portion 22 to permit the end part to be broken away, a piston 27 within the cylinder, and a piston rod 30 carrying a knife 26 adapted to cut through the bottom of a longitudinal groove 24 in the cylinder wall to prevent reuse of the syringe. The cylinder is provided with laterally extending ears 29, Figs. 1a and b (not shown), providing a finger grip and an internal stop (not shown) to prevent complete withdrawal of the piston. After removal of the sealed part, an hypodermic needle may be fitted over the nozzle and covered by a shield, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
