Abstract

1490165 Transfusion apparatus HAEMONETICS CORP 28 April 1975 [29 April 1974] 17615/75 Heading A5R A phlebotomy needle arrangement comprises a hub 12 mounting a rigid stainless steel cannula 11, a socket member 16 having a central chamber 39, and supporting a blood transfer tube 17 and auxiliary tubes 18, 19 in communication with said central chamber, whereby, with the hub 12 engaged in the socket member, the end of tube 17 surrounds the adjacent end of the cannula 11 defining an annular liquid passageway 44 such that anticoagulant solution may be drawn through auxiliary tube 18 into chamber 39 and through passageway 44 to mix with blood flowing through tube 17, and saline solution may be passed through tube 19 to flush out the needle system. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), rigid cannula 11 is replaced by flexible tubing, and a removable lancet is provided for insertion of the flexible tubing into a vein.
