926,917. Grinding; work holders. HAMMOND MACHINERY BUILDERS Inc. Sept. 7, 1959, No. 21360/61. Divided out of 920,578. Class 60. A work-holding device for use on a grinding machine having a worksupporting table 22, Fig. 16, comprises a baseframe 117, a pair of opposed work-holding jaws 118, 123, one on the frame and the other movable to or from the first jaw, swivelling means 138 extending through the frame and jaw 123 for enabling the frame and jaw to swivel about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the table, releasable means 126 for locking such means to the table, manually operable locking means 146, Fig. 14, for securing the frame 117 and the jaw 123 to the swivel means, and means 126, Fig. 13, for moving the frame and the jaw relatively to each other so as to bring the two jaws into and out of gripping engagement. The device is applicable to the grinding machine described in Specification 860,084 and may be used for tool grinding in the manner shown in Fig. 19, in which the tool 166 is gripped by the jaws 118, 123 and a tool positioner 170 is used to locate the tool precisely before clamping. When an angular position of the tool is required, the device is adjusted as shown in Fig. 16, a graduated quadrant 163 and index 164 enabling the required angle to be selected.
