Abstract
926,769. Two-part couplings; couplings between relatively-movable conducting parts. D. S. GUINNESS. April 5, 1961 [May 16, 1960], No. 17136/60. Class 38 (1). In a conduit distribution system built-up of units, such as A . . . D, which plug together, some of the units, such as C, D, are formed with a continuous slot in the front face through which plugs such as 15, Fig. 2, may be inserted at any position to contact strip conductors 7, 8, 9. The slot is displaced from the centre of the conduit and the plug has a T-shaped head, one arm of which is longer than the other so that after passing horizontally through the slot, the head can be rotated in one direction only to ensure correct engagement of plug contacts 16, 18 with the current-carrying strips 7, 9 located on either side of the slot. Strip 8 is the earth conductor and is located opposite the slot, being engaged by plug contact 17. The plug carries a three-pin socket or may have a lead wire attached thereto. The slot may be closed when not in use by a metal plate which forms the earth conductor and is held in position by resilient plastic material so as to be displaceable by a plug (Fig. 8, not shown). Alternatively the slot may be closed by an insulating plate carrying an earth strip on its front face and being held in position by a corrugated spring or coil springs (Figs. 9-12, not shown).
