Abstract

926,489. Packaging. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Aug. 29, 1961 [Oct. 20, 1960], No. 36000/60. Class 94(1). In a wrapping machine having a horizontal folding box, means for feeding a web of wrapping material continuously into the folding box where it is formed into a tube and mechanism for feeding articles in regular spaced procession into the folding box where they become entubed in the wrapping material, the folding box has open sides and opposed conveyers have grippers which engage in pairs with the entubed articles and feed them through the folding box to mechanism for severing the tube transversely between the articles. The machine may be similar to that described in Specification 901,339, the folding box 16 having its sides cut away at 40 and the side belts 25 feeding the entubed articles 11 to the cutting devices 24 having pairs of pads 26 which grip the articles 11 through the tube. The ends of the tubes containing the articles may be twisted after severance or may be heat sealed when they are cut off from the web. The top seam of the tube which is overlapped and heat sealed may alternatively be left open.
