Abstract

926,278. Gas burners. TECHNICAN INSTRUMENTS CORPORATION. Aug. 22, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], No. 30309/61. Classes 75 (1) and 75 (3). A burner for spectral quantitative analysis of a liquid comprises a burner tip 30 supplied with a combustible gas mixture to provide a main flame, a capillary tube 32 for introducing a sample of the liquid into the base of the flame and a series of auxiliary flames at the ends of tubes 40 surrounding but spaced from the main flame. The capillary tube 32 extends through a vertical bore 28 supplying the gas mixture to the main flame and is centred therein by three screws 36. The tubes 40 for the auxiliary flames are spaced from arcuate walls 42 formed on the upper portion of the burner. The gaseous mixtures for both the main flame and the auxiliary flames are formed in a valve block 10 which includes a mixer for the main flame and an identical mixer for the auxiliary flames. Each mixer comprises a passage 70 fed with both gas and oxygen through a single passage 128 and containing a mixer tube 78 containing a series of mixing cups 80 having apertures 82. The mixture enters the mixing tube through an end aperture and flows through the cups to a tube 18 leading to the burner and connected by a tube 50 to an annular manifold 54 feeding the auxiliary flame tubes 40. The mixture from the other identical mixer is carried by a tube 16 to the vertical bore 28 of the burner to supply the main flame. The valve block contains two needle valves 98, 120 for controlling the two flows of fuel gas to the two mixers and two further needle valves for controlling the two flows of oxygen to the two mixers.
