Abstract

A fuel composition of high octane number comprises a hydrocarbon base fuel boiling in the gasoline boiling range and vinyltrimethyl lead in an amount at least 0,5 millilitres per gallon of base fuel.ALSO:Vinyltrimethyl lead is made by reacting 2 moles of lithium with 1 mole of mono-bromobenzene to give phenyl lithium, reacting this with tetravinyl tin to give vinyl lithium which in its turn is reacted with trimethyl lead chloride.
