Abstract

926,155. Stackable crates. EXPANDED METAL CO. Ltd. May 8, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 16873/60. Class 18. A crate comprises an inner container with corner uprights 1 connected to one another by upper and lower struts 4, 5, the sides, ends and bottom being enclosed by panels 8, 9 of mesh material, and an outer cradle having a bottom frame 10 provided with corner posts 11 so spaced that the container can readily be positioned in the cradle for transit. The container panels 8, 9 may be of expanded metal and are welded to the metal angle sections comprising the uprights 1 and struts 4, 5 which are secured to wooden fillets the corners, being reinforced by L-shaped brackets 2. The cradle has a bottom frame comprising flat metal strips 10<SP>1</SP> connected by transverse straps 17 and a central strap 18, and has detachable posts 11 tied to each other by wires 19 threaded through holes in the posts. Another form has wires continuing round all four sides. The posts 11 may be removably mounted in corner blocks having shaped holes which receive the tapered faces of flanges on the upper ends of the posts of a lower cradle when the crates are stacked. The corner blocks may have D-brackets for hold-down straps, and a top cover for the container may be provided.
