Abstract
634,681. Boxes. FOORD, A. J. July 31, 1947, No. 20820. [Class 18] A knock-down . box comprises top and bottom panels formed into trays by battens along their edges, the battens holding between them the box sides and ends, vertical battens being secured at the box corners, and the whole held closed by metal straps. The longitudinal battens 6 of the top and bottom panels are grooved to receive the sides 1, and notched to accommodate the vertical battens 3 secured to the ends. The battens 6 may be cut as at 14, 16 to receive removable metal straps 12, the ends 15 of which are bent to hook under the battens 6. The lid and bottom form a shallow box which contains the sides and ends in a knocked-down condition. In lieu of the straps 12, all-round metal bands may be used, battens being inserted between the straps and the box sides for strength. The box ends may be reinforced by metal strips 11.
