A set of circular knitting-machines has the needle cylinder for each machine of the same diameter but the tricks of different depths so that the actual diameter of the needle circle for each machine varies from the others of the set of machines. Accordingly the width of the needle sliders or the length of their butts or of the needle butts in each cylinder differs from those in the other cylinders. Jacks may be positioned beneath the sliders or needles and be positioned at the same or a less depth than that of the needles or sliders. The tricks may be formed by milling the cylinders to the appropriate depths or by providing trick walls 21 held in place around the cylinder. To maintain the trick walls 21 at correct spacing the needle sliders may be slotted as at 23 through which slots supporting members 24 project to engage the opposite faces of two trick walls and being of slightly greater thickness than that of the sliders retain the walls at a distance to enable the sliders to move freely.
