Abstract

925,401. High-voltage switches; switch contacts. FABRIEK VAN ELECTRISCHE APPARATEN VOORHEEN F. HAZEMEIJER & CO. N.V. Aug. 19, 1959 [Aug. 27, 1958], No. 28353/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXVI] A switch comprises a fixed contact assembly 3, 4, a movable contact rod 17, a movable contact sleeve 12 and a fixed insulating tube 5 which is between the rod and the sleeve when the circuit-breaker is closed, the arrangement being such that the sleeve 12 separates first from the fixed contact assembly when the switch is opened and engages first. with the fixed contact assembly when the switch is closed. In the double-break arrangement shown, an insulating hood 10 carries two interconnected sleeves 12 and a U- shaped conducting member 16 which provides the contact rods 17 and together with an armature 13 is movable in slots in the sleeves. The armature 13 co-operates with a permanent magnet assembly 7, 9 disposed between the breaks. To close the switch the hook 10 is pushed on to the insulating member 6 surrounding the fixed contact assemblies so that each sleeve 12 engages a fixed contact 4, Fig. 1. On the further movement of the hood 10, a stirrup 15 pushes the armature 13 down so as to bring the rods 17 into engagement with the fixed contacts 3. Springs 18 are then stressed to provide contact pressure as the armature 13 is brought into engagement with the permanent magnet assembly, Fig. 2. To open the switch, the hood is pulled up so separating the contact sleeves 12 from the contacts 4, Fig. 3. As the armature 13 is held by the assembly 7, 9, the contact rods 17 do not move until the ends of the slots in the sleeves 12 abut the armature and lift it away from the assembly 7, 9. The rods 17 then separate rapidly from the contacts 3 under the force of springs 14 which have been stressed by the movement of the sleeves 12 relative to the armature .13.
