Abstract
925,102. Handling liquid cargoes. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE GENERALE DE MECANIQUE APPLIQUEE S.I.G.M.A. July 23, 1959 [Feb. 11, 1959], No. 25393/59. Class 78 (4). [Also in Group XXXIII] Unloading of a ship carrying liquid cargo and/or ballast in tanks or compartments is effected by the contents of the tanks flowing from one tank to another until it attains a single tank or compartment from which the liquid is sucked directly. The ship shown in Fig. 1 has cargo tanks 1-5 to 10<SP>1</SP>, 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and ballast tanks 6-9 and 6<SP>1</SP>-9<SP>1</SP>. The tanks 1-5 are separated by transverse bulkheads 12-15 having orifices provided with valve shutters (see Group XXXIII). Two pumps 28, 29 for unloading the ship and housed in a pump room 27 are connected by pipes 30, 31 having valves 32, 33 therein to suction plugs 34, 35 opening directly to the tank 5, i.e. the tank nearest the pump room. The pump room is also equipped with a stripping pump 36 for draining the tanks, which pump is connected via the stripping pipe 40 and its branches to suction plugs in each tank and finally to the tank 5 at 41. Two pumps 56, 57 are connected via ballast lines 60, 60<SP>1</SP> to suction plugs in the ballast tanks. Fig. 2 shows the upper deck with loading pipes or manifolds 73, 74 for filling the tanks.
