Abstract

924,529. Packaging. PNEUMATIC SCALE CORPORATION Ltd. April 27, 1961, No. 15303/61. Class 94(1). A string and tag handle is incorporated in a tea bag &c., by attaching the handle to sheet material which is then folded, filled and sealed to form the package, with the end of the handle secured in the seal and the string passed round the package. Sheet material may be drawn off from a roll 103, centrally scored at 114 and have the tags 118 laid on and positioned by suction means 107 until secured by tack welding at 120. The strings, strips 126, are positioned and tack welded at 122, 124, 128 and their ends 126 folded on to the other side of the web. The web is reversed and folded to engage continuously moving filling nozzles 131 and is transversely sealed at 130. Finally rollers 133, 135 seal the mouths and individual packages are severed by means 137. In a variation of the above method, Figs. 17, 18 (not shown) groups of packets are severed before final sealing by opposed heated bars and are then cut to form individual packages by a group of knives. The bag material is preferably thin porous filter paper embodying thermoplastics of which latter the inner face contains a greater proportion than the outer. Specification 823,348 is referred to.
