Abstract
Polyethylene terephthalate of improved colour is made by polycondensing bis-(b -hydroxyethyl) terephthalate using as a catalyst an alkali metal salt of a keto carboxylic acid. As an additional catalyst, antimony oxide may be used. In examples dimethyl terephthalate was transesterified with ethylene glycol in the presence of zinc acetate and the product polycondensed in the presence of titanium dioxide and the potassium salt of levulinic, pyroracemic or ketopimelic acid.
