Abstract
Polytetramethylene terephthalate is made by polycondensing bis - (delta - hydroxy n-butyl) terephthalate in presence of litharge. The bis-(delta-hydroxy n-butyl) terephthalate may be made by effecting ester-interchange between a dialkyl terephthalate and 1.4-butane diol and litharge may also be used as the ester-interchange catalyst. Zinc acetate may be used as an additional ester-interchange catalyst and zinc oxide as an additional polycondensation catalyst. Titanium dioxide may be added prior to the polycondensation to effect delustring of the resulting polymer. Subject-matter in Specification 765,597 is disclaimed. Specification 765,597 is referred to.
