Abstract
1,166,274. Aromatic linear polyesters. SNIA VISCOSA SOC. NAZIONALE INDUSTRIA APPLICAZIONI VISCOSA S.p.A. 6 Oct., 1966 [16 Oct., 1965], No. 44628/66. Heading C3R. In the manufacture of aromatic linear polyesters by reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (or ester-forming derivative thereof) with a glycol, products of improved colour are obtained by adding to the reaction mixture an alkali metal salt of an aromatic sulphonic acid substituted by one or two esterified carboxyl groups and in an amount of 0.05 to 0.2 mol. per cent based on the aromatic dicarboxylic acid residues. Examples describe the preparation of fibreforming polyesters from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol and potassium 3: 5-dicarbomethoxybenzene sulphonate or sodium 2: 5- dicarbomethoxybenzene sulphonate.
