Abstract
924,328. Pneumatic conveyers. BUHLER GEB. May 12, 1961 [May 19, 1960 (2)], No. 17475/61. Class 78 (1). In a pneumatic conveyer the material discharged from a separator 3, Fig. 1, passes to a vertical pipe 7 having a shut-off valve 15 at its lower end controlled in dependence of the height of the column of material which thereby forms an air seal. The valve 15 may be horizontal or inclined and is operated by a double-acting pneumatic piston 14 controlled from electric or pneumatic level-sensing elements 8, 9. In a modification, the separator comprises a rectangular section vertical pipe 29, Fig. 7, having an arcuate deflector 30 which directs the granular material downwards. In this example, the escape of material is controlled by a segmental gate 38 actuated by a single-acting pneumatic piston operating against a return spring 41. In a further modification (Fig. 9, not shown) the pipe may extend generally downwardly in an elongated helical path.
