992,207. Jig washers. BETEILIGUNGSUND PATENTVERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. Feb. 19, 1964 [Feb. 20, 1963], No. 6977/64. Heading B2H. An air-operated jig washer for coal, ore &c. is provided with bellows 3 arranged beneath a screen 1, the bellows being made of rubber or plastics material. The material is separated as it moves from the inlet end A to the outlet end B by the pulsating action of water through the screen, such pulsations being effected by the bellows which are provided with openings 5 for the entry and escape of air. The bellows are secured at one end to fixed bridges 4 so that the stroke of the first bellows is in a downward direction and the other two in an upward direction. As shown in Fig. 3, stabilizing rings of steel or plastics material are vulcanized around each bellows and internal return springs of rubber or steel urge the bellows to its compressed condition. A cap 10 is also made of rubber or steel and the bellows are guided in their stroke by either springs 11 or rods extending through tubes in the bellows. Instead of the bellows being of elongated form, they may be circular in cross-section and disposed close together in series. The control of the apparatus can be effected by float or isotope.
