Abstract

924,177. Speed - responsive switches. TIMOTHY EATON Ltd. Nov. 27, 1961 [Nov. 29, 1960], No. 40890/60. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XIX] Apparatus for detecting cessation or commencement of rotary motion comprises an annular body 5 in which is journalled a hub portion 9 of a cylindrical casing 10 carrying a solid rubber tyre 11 in driving contact with the element whose state of motion is to be detected ; a shaft 17 concentric with the hub 9 and fixed to a rotor 19 closely fitting a sealed liquidfilled chamber in the casing 10 ; different numbers of notches spaced round the opposed peripheries of the chamber and rotor 19 so that due to the shear resistance of the liquid in the chamber the rotor tends to turn with the casing 10 against the action of a hair-pin spring 42 ; and a lever 29 fixed to the shaft 17 operating a microswitch 34 in response to stressing of the spring 42. One end of the spring 42 is clamped to the body 5, the other end engages a slot 37 in the lever 29 biasing it toward the midposition between two stops 36. The other end of the lever 29 has a cam face 32 for co-operation with the button 33 of microswitch 34 which is released when the bias of the spring is overcome in either direction.
