Abstract
924,173. Bottling; filling casks. BURNETT & ROLFE Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 11, 1960], No. 34819/60. Classes 21 and 125(2). A liquid which foams, e.g. beer, is first sterilised by passage through a steriliser and is then passed into a container to fill it; the foam on top of the liquid in the container is forced therefrom into a device where it condenses, and where means is provided which serves, on production of sufficient liquid by condensation, to open a valve admitting gas to the device to force the liquid back to the steriliser for recirculation, the valve closing on return to the steriliser of a predetermined amount of such liquid. Beer is supplied under pressure to a steriliser 1 heated by steam or hot water, and flows in a heated and sterilised condition to a tank 6 from which it is pumped into two conduits each feeding a container 9. A conduit 10 leads from each container and feeds foam to a receiver 12 which then passes through a conduit 14 and one-way valve 15 to a second receiver 16 having a float 21. The receiver tops are connected through conduits 18, 18a and 19 to the top of the tank 6 providing a counter pressure. When the float rises to a sufficient level a switch is operated and a normally closed valve 30 opened, and a normally open valve 32 closed, and carbon dioxide is supplied through a conduit 31 to the receiver 16 to force beer through a one-way valve 34 and conduit 35 back to the steriliser for recirculation. When the float falls to its lower level the valves 30 and 32 are closed and opened respectively.
