Abstract

923,323. Coffee-machines. HGZ-A.G. March 30, 1961 [April 11, 1960], No. 11790/61. Class 129. A fitting for an espresso coffee machine comprises a cock controlling the hot water supply and a ventilating cock which controls a pipe leading into the filter arrangement, the two cocks being constrainedly connected together so that the ventilating cook is not opened until the hot water cock has been closed and vice versa. In operation, when handle 11 is moved from position A to B (Fig. 2), hot water flows through ducts 4, 15 and 16 and simultaneously through pipes 18 and 28 (Fig. 1) and the expansion tube 13 is expanded by water pressure and forces the closure member 14 to seal off pipe 23. The water passes through pipe 16 into the known coffee filter arrangement. On moving handle 11 back to position A, the hot water feed is interrupted. The presure in expansion tube 13 decreases causing it to contract, drawing closure member 14 against stub pipe 28. This allows a passage from the filter chamber via ducts 23 and 24 to discharge pipe 25 which is positioned over a drip pan. Thus ventilation takes place and excess pressure is relieved.
