Abstract
922,966. Aircraft beacon lights. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 28, 1960], No. 37152/60. Class 75 (4). [Also in Group XXXVIII] An arrangement for providing an observer approaching a location with a visual indication of his position with respect to an approach plane passing through the location, particularly for use as an aircraft landing system, comprises an arrangement producing a number of bi-coloured light beams which together form a composite beam the colour of which is different on opposite sides of the approach plane so that the observer knows whether he is on, above or below the plane. A casing 1 is divided by opaque sheets 3 or louvres, a slot 5 being provided at the end of each section so formed and a red filter extending approximately half-way across each beam of light from a lamp 7 focused on to a slot by a prismatic lens 8. The composite beam formed is divided into red (R) and white (W) sections.
