Abstract
922,904. Rockets. BRISTOL AEROJET Ltd. June 10, 1960 [March 12, 1959], No. 8627/59. Class 9 (2). A rocket is provided with a casing 10 terminating forwardly in a nose cone 11 and housing at the rear a combustion chamber 12 and a nozzle 13 surrounded by stabilizing fins 14. Between partitions 16, 17 is a stowage compartment 18 containing a coiled line 19. One end of the line 19 is attached to a ring 15 secured to partition 17 and the other end is threaded through fairleads 21, 22, 23 24 guiding the line past the rocket motor and clear of the nozzle. Fairlead 24 may be replaced by a sleeve of heat-insulating material, which material may also be provided on the line. A braking parachute, to slow down the rocket, may be housed in a compartment 27 adjacent the line. The hollow nose cone 11 and the compartment 18, when empty, act as buoyancy chambers should the rocket fall into water.
