Abstract

922,857. Scavengering-machines. R. G. DIXON & CO. Ltd. Sept. 28, 1960 [Nov. 2, 1959], No. 37128/59. Class 107. A suction-cleaning machine comprises a suction pump, a nozzle communicating with the pump inlet and at least two separating chambers, the arrangement being such that dust and litter laden air drawn into the nozzle has litter and the heavier dust particles removed in the first separating chamber the dust particles falling through a mesh partition into a third chamber, and the lighter dust particles removed in the second separating chamber. As shown, an impeller 6 draws refuse-laden air through a nozzle 8 into a chamber 7 where the heavier dust particles fall into a container 10 and papers &c. are trapped in a wire basket 9. The lighter dust particles are removed in cyclone separators 11 and collected in a container 12. The cyclone separators may be replaced by filter means comprising a casing in which a plurality of fabric bags are supported on wire formers, dust laden air entering the casing passing into the bags and depositing the dust on their outer surfaces. Tubes may be substituted for the bags and a vibrator mechanism provided to shake the dust off the bags. In each case the filtered air is circulated about the motor 5, which drives the impeller, to cool it. Specification 922,858 is referred to.
