Abstract

1,197,443. Gas fitter. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 6 Oct., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 45613/66. Heading B1T. A filter for cleaning dust-laden air from a leather roughing machine comprises an array of woven fabric filter bags 15 arranged across a housing below an electric-powered extractor fan (11) (Fig. 1, not shown), the bags being of flat rectangular form with flaps 35, 37 (Fig. 2, not shown), adjacent their open upper ends, folded outwards and secured by adhesive to the sides and cross members of upper frame 19 from which they are suspended. Rods 49, extending along the closed bottoms of the bags, are individually urged downwards in a lower frame 39, through whose sides the ends of the rods project, by rubber strips 59 which are threaded over rods 49 and under projections 61 along the two sides of frame 39. This allows for variations in bag lengths, and in addition the frame 39 is urged downwards by tension springs 41. A hand-operated crank 79, 81 lifts frame 39 and allows it to snap downwards to shake dust from the bag exteriors. The walls of the bags are supported by internal hair pads (67). Dust shaken from the bags falls into a dust drawer (71) which is removable from the housing after raising sealing frame (75). The central portion of the housing has a transparent window for observing bags 15.
