Abstract

905,113. Air filters. DALLOW LAMBERT Ltd. Nov. 17, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 30791/59. Class 8(2). A dust-laden air filter comprises a plurality of inward flow filter pockets or bags B, Fig. 5, each held against collapse by suction by an open-work insert I, Fig. 6, and assembled in side by side relation as a unitary structure A which is adapted for removal from an openended closed sided casing C. The structure comprises a plurality of initially separate folded sheets of filter material assembled side by side and having their free vertical edges stitched together so as to leave projecting ears 1<SP>c</SP> to which are stitched a flexible collar 7 containing a spring 11 surrrounding the bag mouths 4. The upper spring-containing portion of the collar 7 is folded over a casing flange 14 and is held in sealing engagement with a rubber strip 30 by a foraminous cover 29 of the casing and which forms the clean air outlet. Adjacent bags are separated by horizontal rods 15 extending across the upper part of the casing and the insert in each bag comprises a textile fabric envelope 19 containing a metal frame 18 across which is stretched a plurality of spring coils 17. The mid-portion 2 of the base of each bag is reinforced and nests in a convolution of a sinuous metal strip S having a locating rod 21 which may also serve to shake the bags to effect cleaning thereof.
