Abstract

981,806. Air filters. MORRIS BROS. (TUNSTALL) Ltd. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 10, 1962], No. 38292/62. Heading B1T. A filter element for a filtering apparatus of the type in which air is drawn by means of a fan through tubes of textile material arranged in a tubular container, dust or other impurities extracted from the air falling into a tray or other receptacle in the base of the container, comprises a tube formed from a textile material such as cotton, nylon or glass fibre by securing the longitudinal edges together, e.g. by stitching, the tube being divided into a number of compartments b by longitudinally securing the sides of the tube together, e.g. by stitching, as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. In this way, the surface area of the filter element is increased as compared with a cylindrical element having a diameter equal to that of a cylinder circumscribing the element of the invention. In Fig. 7 is shown a filtering apparatus comprising a container A<SP>1</SP> housing a number of filter elements B mounted in parallel between an air inlet and a platform b<SP>1</SP> supporting a fan A<SP>2</SP> and suspended on springs b<SP>2</SP> to give a vibratory movement to the elements due to the rotation of the fan.
