Abstract

922,050. Gas turbine engines. A. P. HORNETT. Sept. 19, 1961, No. 33476/61. Class 110 (3). A gas turbine engine comprises a rotor C mounted on a shaft A and rotatable in a fixed outer casing. The shaft A is hollow and the passage therein communicates with two radially extending passages D in the rotor. A fuel and air mixture is supplied from a compressor driven by the shaft A and is fed through the shaft A to the passages D where it undergoes further compression. As the rotor rotates the passages D communicate with combustion chambers E formed in the outer casing, the mixture passing into the chambers where it is fired by sparking plugs F. The expansion of the gases drives the rotor, the exhaust gases subsequently discharging through outlets G. Means are provided to advance the ignition as the speed increases. The engine may be either air cooled or watercooled.
