In a method for the production of shoes, an upper 1, previously joined to an insole 2 and a foxing 7, is pulled over a last to a position in which the jointing seam is placed on the edge of the last which is chamfered, an insulating piece 6 is secured to the partly made shoe by an overlapping portion of the foxing 7, and a decorative welt 8 and a bottom filler 14 are subsequently applied before the sole 10 is attached to the shoe e.g. by vulcanization. As shown, the sole 10, which may be made of foam rubber, may be provided with recesses 13 and has at its peripheral edge a decorative cover 9 or an embossed pattern. A removable sock 19 is provided. The last may be of wood or of a synthetic material resistant to the vulcanizing temperature.
