Abstract

921,214. Valves. W. GOMERSALL. May 7, 1959 [July 24, 1958], No. 23824/58. Class 135. In a sliding-gate valve, the gate 6 is wedgeshaped and seats on resilient sealing-rings 8 supported on the ends of sleeves 7 detachably fitting in the valve body 1 and arranged perpendicular to the faces of the gate. The rings 8 are removably mounted between the sleeves 7 and the valve body and interengaging shoulders 11 on the sleeve and valve body prevent inward movement of the sleeves. The rings may be formed of polytetrafluoroethylene, rubber, or like resilient material. A drain plug 10 and a plug 9, which can be replaced by a bleeder valve to indicate if leakage occurs when the gate is shut, are provided.
