Abstract

1,161,202. Valves; sealing rings. ROBERT CORT & SON Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 34173/65. Headings F2B and F2V. A sealing ring of elastomeric material such as rubber, has a cross-sectional shape forming a larger generally oval part 24 and a smaller, approximately semicircular, part 25. The smaller part 25 can be round the outer periphery or on one side axially of the ring. As shown, two such rings are incorporated in a seat of a gate valve having a parallel slide gate 23. The rings are held by the larger portion in recesses formed conjointly by a seat ring 26 and a keeper ring secured by screws 27. One ring seals the gate and the other seals the periphery of a recess in the valve body 22. The seat is biased by springs 29. One of the rings may be replaced by an O-ring. The device may be applied to a spherical plug valve. Various alternative means of retaining the rings are described, Figs. 1-4 and 6-15 (not shown).
