Abstract

A valve is provided with a sealing device housed in the closure face of the movable valve member. The device is housed in a groove 39 and comprises an 0-ring 50 of material such as neoprene enclosed in the groove by an outer ring 41 of resilient plastics material such as is known under the Registered Trade Mark " Teflon ". The outer ring has an interior V-shaped channel over the inner ring and side shoulders 38 which retain it in re-entrant portions of the groove. In use the outer ring engages the valve seat resiliently and is urged further into the groove and deforms the inner ring. As shown, the device is applied to a spherical plug valve which has one open side as shown. In other embodiments, the device is applied to butterfly, V- type gate and lift valves, Figs. 7-15 (not shown).
