Abstract

893,870. Valves. NORDISKA ARMATURFABRIKERNA A.B. Feb. 3, 1960 [Feb. 3, 1959], No. 3919/60. Class 135. A fluid control valve comprises a lift valve member including a rigid portion to which is secured a sealing portion of rubber or other resilient material, a rigid sleeve extending over part of the length of the sealing portion and having an inwardly-projecting abutment engaged in a recess in the periphery of the sealing portion, said sleeve and sealing portion both engaging the valve seat in the closed position of the valve. In the first example, Fig. 2, a resilient sealing member 7 is secured by a washer 9 and nut 10 within a skirt of a water-cock valve member 3. A metal sleeve 12 surrounds the lower part of the sealing member 7 a peripheral recess of which receives a flange 13 of the sleeve 12. The arrangement is such that the sleeve 12 resiliently engages the seat 2 in the closed position of the valve and the sealing member is confined within the walls of the parts 3, 9, 12. In another example, Fig. 3, the washer 9 is replaced by an inner sleeve 15 the lower flange 16 of which engages the seat 2 and the upper flange 17 of which projects into the sealing member 7. The sealing member may be composed of two parts, a lower part of hard rubber and an upper part of soft rubber. The inner sleeve may only have an upper flange and be fixed to a bushing or it may have oppositely-directed upper and lower flanges.
