Abstract
921,074. Treating leather. M. PAQUET. June 20, 1961 [June 30, 1960], No. 22252/61. Class 76. A process for the treatment of zirconiumtanned leathers, which comprises treating a zirconium-tanned leather with a solution in an organic solvent of at least one complex fatty amide derived from aliphatic amines containing 8-22 carbon atoms by dehydration in the presence of a fatty acid, and then subjecting the leather to a water treatment. The treatment of the leathers is carried out by impregnation, in the open air or in a partial vacuum with recovery of the solvent, with the solution, at a temperature between 30‹ and 55‹ C., the impregnation lasting between 10 and 30 minutes, the said solution containing the amides having a concentration of dry extract between 12 and 45%, the said dry extract containing 6 to 100% (and preferably between 25 and 45%), of dry amides and this treatment being followed by hydrolysis by soaking in water. The amides may be used in the form of aqueous dispersions prepared, prior to the dispersion, in the form of a concentrated solution in an appropriate solvent, and dispersed by means of an emulsifying agent, the surfaceactive effects of which are destroyed with the drying. Specification 847,832 is referred to.
