Abstract

1,134,668. Collagen fibres. SVIT NARODNI PODNIK. 3 June, 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 24741/66. Heading C3H. [Also in Division D1] Collagen fibres are obtained from " tannery waste," e.g. parings of skins and hides, fleshing machine offal, subcutaneous connective tissue, sinews, by subjecting the waste to successive treatments of liming, optional pickling and/or deliming, optional bating by means of proteolytic enzyme, tanning, mechanically disintegrating into a mass of separate fibres in the presence of an amount of water greater than the tanned material, separating the fibre mass from the water to reduce the content of the latter to not more than 35%, loosening or opening the fibre mass, and drying, e.g. in two stages, one before and one after carding. Fat may be removed by solvents, e.g. benzine, triehloroethylene, perchlorethylene, before or after tanning.
