Abstract

920,847. Servicing reactors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov. 18, 1960], No. 39718/60. Class 39 (4). A reactor servicing machine includes a pressure vessel movable above the reactor so as to be coupled to a selected standpipe whilst the reactor is in operation and a charge shoot insertable through the standpipe, the shoot having a radially offset tube which may be engaged with any one of a group of fuel element channels in the reactor core by rotating the shoot through an indexing mechanism. The upper end 3 of the shoot is indexed by a housing 2 carrying twelve rollers 15 corresponding to the indexing positions, these rollers being engageable by either one of two pawls 11 associated, respectively, with two reciprocating assemblies 4, 5 corresponding to the two directions of rotation of the shoot. Each assembly comprises a rod 6 slidable in guides 8, 9 and carrying a pawl 11 by means of a pivot pin 12, the rod being biased to its outer position by a spring-loaded telescopic tube 17. Tappets 18, 19 extending through the pressure vessel (not shown) operate the rods 6.
