Abstract

916,253. Servicing reactors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Sept. 1, 1960], No. 30172/60. Class 39 (4). A servicing machine operating in conjunction with a standpipe 8 extending through the reactor pressure vessel 9 to permit refuelling of a channel 10 through a charge tube 5 and radiusing member 12 whilst the reactor is on load, comprises a pressure vessel 1 enclosing a magazine 2, a fixed tube 4 in alignment with the tube 5, a transfer tube 6 movable between the upper end of the tube 4 and a magazine tube and hoist means (not shown) for the fuel elements. The tube 6 is pivoted at 13 in a housing 14 and its lower end is held either over the tube 4 or a magazine tube by an overcentre spring toggle mechanism 15 pivoted to the tube 6 at 16. An intermediate point of the mechanism 15 is pivoted on a fixed pin 16<SP>1</SP> and push rods 18, 19 acting on the mechanism at either side of the pivot 16<SP>1</SP> permit the mechanism to be moved to either one of its overcentre positions. The rods 18, 19 are operated by tappets slidably extending through the wall of the vessel 1 (Figs. 3, 5, not shown). In operation, the fuel elements are lifted by the hoist through the tubes 4, 5 into the tube 6, the latter then being pivoted and the elements lowered into a magazine tube.
