Abstract

920,362. Bearings. ATKINSON'S AGRICULTURAL APPLIANCES Ltd. April 10, 1961 [May 21, 1960; Aug. 20, 1960], Nos. 18027/60 and 28905/60. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] A telescopic guard 20 is mounted on a telescopic shaft 21, 22, universally coupled at 23, 24 to driving and driven shafts by radially expansible bearings 40 which engage grooves 38 in the shaft or universal joint yoke. As shown, the bearing 40 comprises an axially split nylon ring 37 surrounded by a steel spring clip 46 and connected by a reduced neck portion 42 to a collar 36 which is riveted at 33 to the guard 20. In Figs. 5-10 (not shown), the bearing comprises balls carried in radial holes in a member fast with the guard and surrounded by a spring clip which urges the balls into the groove in the shaft or yoke. The ball carrying member may be provided with a grease nipple.
