In a combine harvester the tailings are conveyed to one side of the combine by an auger 29 placed in the collecting trough 24 and are lifted to the separating unit 14 by an elevator 34. Impeller blades 45 enclosed in a cylindrical housing 46 at the top of the elevator distribute the tailings across the breadth of the combine on to the grain pan 16.
