Abstract
919,082. Knitting-machines. SINGERFIDELITY Inc. April 27, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14708/60. Class 74 (2). The severed end portion of a withdrawn yarn 21 fed by one, 15, of a number of guides 14, 15, 16 at a feeder of a circular machine, is twisted with the ends of other inactive yarns of the other guides to form a strand 23 to retain it in an inoperative position whereby the yarn is ready for subsequent feeding to the needles. On introduction of a yarn 28 by its guide 14 to the needles, the end portion of the yarn extending from the first receiving needle to the strand, into which it has been twisted with the other yarns, is severed to release the end portion from the needles after which the severed end portion is gradually withdrawn with the strand into a waste receptacle. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the withdrawn yarn 2 is being drawn by the last needle to take it under a clamp 26 and subsequently under a deflector 29 until the yarn extends diametrically across the needle cylinder on top of the dial plate 13. The yarn 21 then comes into contact with a heater element 33 which severs the yarn and, simultaneously, a hollow spindle carrying a hook 36 at its lower is rotated so that the hook engages the end of the yarn 21 and twists it together with the other yarns extending from the guides to form a single strand which passes up through the centre of the spindle where a flyer head is provided for engaging the strand and periodically drawing the strand up through the spindle into a waste receptacle. When a yarn is reintroduced to the needles, as shown by the yarn 20 in Fig. 2, the yarn extending from the spindle 24 to the guide 14 is engaged by the leading needle and is gradually peeled from the strand to pass beneath the clamp 26, over the leading end of the deflector 29 to be engaged in a hook portion 30. As the leading needle draws the yarn extending from it to the spindle into engagement with the heater severing device 33, the hook 30 of the deflector 29 holds the yarn out of engagement with the spindle hook 24 so that it is not again twisted into the strand but so that the severed end is eventually drawn up through the spindle with the rest of the strand by the flyer head. Specification 919,083 is referred to.
